Should I Fix My Computer or Just Buy A New One
:: Tue, Mar 30 2010
MePush was recently asked by a customer in Danville, PA “Should I get a new computer or just fix the one I have?” This is a great question and one we hear all the time. There is not always clear cut and the answer can depend on a number of factors:
- Your budget
- Age & Quality of your computer
- Extent/Cost of the repair needed
If your budget is very tight, you may not have the option to buy a PC so fixing your computer may be your only option. If your PC is very old (5+ years old) and the cost of repair is over $175 we generally would recommend you replace the PC as a decent tower can be had for as cheap as $400-$600. That said, if your budget is tighter you may rather spend the 100 or so dollars to fix it to avoid the larger expense. If the repair is small ($125 or less) we generally recommend fixing the PC.
The other thing to keep in mind is the cost of the migration to the new PC. Moving your documents, pictures, programs and settings over to a new PC requires a few hours of labor. Therefore, you need to budget for that expense unless you can handle the migration yourself. Most of our customers cannot handle this and thus they pay us to move their data and setup the new PC in their home or business here in the Susquehanna Valley.
In summary, talk to one of our Computer Repair Experts at our offices in Lewisburg and make sure you discuss these 3 points so that you make a decision that makes sense and is good for you.
