Wireless in Rental Units
Kevin Gardner of Brywnood Rentals is always looking to increase the marketability of his apartment rentals in Lewisburg, PA. Kevin contacted MePush Inc. in order to outfit all of his larger multi-unit buildings with complete wireless internet coverage. With wireless internet provided with each rental unit, tenants don’t need to wait days or weeks for service to be installed. Instead, they walk into their new place, type in the wireless key, and begin surfing. And with internet FREE as part of the rent, tenants save $30-$60 in monthly costs. This convenience for cusomters also protects the properties from wear and tear from continual cabling installations that often end up being poked through windows, walls, and siding.
MePush Inc. conducted a site survey of the nine properties to determine how many access points would be needed at each location, to analyze the spectrum for interference levels, and to determine the cabling requirements each building required. MePush also helped Kevin arrange quotes from ISPs to provide the connectivity and bandwidth to serve each housing unit. We were excited to see one provider offer the ninth building’s internet at no additional charge and conveniently put all locations on one bill for easier tracking and paperwork.
The project was a fun challenge as each building was different in construction materials, age, layout, and number of inhabitants that needed wireless. Dan Eisley took the lead on the project and pulled other IT specialists Alex Hare, Lon Shirk, and Ty Hoban into the project as needed. Over the course of 60 days MePush designed, installed, tested, and documented the nine locations. Dan then turned over to Brywnood Rentals the documentation for passwords, wireless SSIDs, and basic troubleshooting tips to the maintenance team at Brynwood Rentals.
We chose Netgear ProSafe wireless APs because of the lifetime warranty, signal strength and configuration options. The 3 features help minimize the installation costs as we could cover more area with less equipment and the total cost of ownership is lower as all gear will be replaced by Netgear over the coming years.
