Building Energy Monitoring
Union County Housing Authority
Challenge: The Union County Housing Authority made a decision to retrofit four homes in Lewisburg and Mifflinburg to make them exceptionally energy efficient. The buildings were super-insulated, used LED lights and had high efficiency heat pumps. But they also wanted to be able to monitor the electricity use of each building to ensure they were functioning optimally – and transmit the information to Penn State University for additional study.
Solution: A system called TED5000 was installed to monitor the electricity in each home. MePush then set up a special internet static IP address for the buildings so the information could be transmitted to PSU for additional study. The systems were mounted on the wall in a way that they could not be tampered with by the current homeowners, or when the homes were sold to a new buyer.
