Giving Back to the Local Community
Technology is constantly changing. Many families in Central PA get a new computer or laptop every few years – but what happens to all of those gently used computers, monitors, keyboards, and cables? Enter MeGive.
MeGive is a project of MePush, Inc. MeGive’s goal is to redeploy and recycle computers and other tech gear to families, businesses, and non-profits in Central Pennsylvania who are in need.
MeGive’s mission is to achieve three primary goals:
1. Recycle and Reduce Waste
One negative side effect of technology is that it creates a lot of “e-waste” – cables, cords, monitors, and hard drives often end up in the landfill causing environmental pollution. MeGive recycles almost any technology or computer equipment in order to reduce landfill waste and protect the local environment.
2. Refurbish & Redeploy
Often times, technology that is considered “old” can be given a new lease on life by simply being repaired or updated. MeGive repairs working equipment in order to donate the items to qualified families, businesses, and non-profits in the community.
3. Educate & Promote
MeGive works within its community and beyond to promote more energy efficient and cost-conscious computing through seminars and events, an online blog, and free or low-cost computer courses.
Measuring Success
To date, more than 100 families and more than 20 non-profit organizations have been assisted by the MeGive program.
