We recommend you use the first calendar sharing method if you are running MS Exchange in your business. The second is great for sharing your calendar with people are outside your orgnanization that may not be running Exchange. The third calendar sharing option is not as convenient and we don’t recommend this option.

Many people struggle with how to share their outlook calendar in Exchange. Here are some steps for Outlook 2007 / 2003

Open Outlook 2003 or Outlook 2007.

Click Calendar on the left side of the window, or click Go > Calendar.

Locate the area labeled, My Calendars, on the left side of the window. Your calendar is found here—it’s probably called “Calendar” (not “Calendar in Personal Folders”).

Open your calendar’s sharing permissions:

If you are using Outlook 2003, right-click on your calendar and select Sharing….

If you are using Outlook 2007, right-click on your calendar and select Properties. Then click Permissions.

Click Add….

Type the last name of the person you want to share your calendar with. To search by anything other than last name, click Advanced Find.

Double-click on a name to add that person. Each name appears in the Add box at the bottom of the window.

Make sure there are no duplicate names in the Add box. Then click OK.

Select one of the names you just added. Right now, the Permission Level is None.

Select a role from the Permission Level drop-down menu. Reviewer and editor, two common permission levels (types of sharing), are described above.

If you added multiple people in step 8, above, make sure you assign a permission level to each person.

When you are done, click Apply and then click OK.

Your Exchange calendar is now shared. You should inform those you shared your calendar with so they can open it in Outlook or Entourage.

Too many of our customers are worried about 2 things:

Keeping employees away from harmful, distractive, and unproductive sites

Keeping kids away from harmful, sexual or otherwise bad sites.

Thanks to OpenDns.com there are EASY, CHEAP, and BEAUTIFUL solutions for all of our customers.

Families and Homes should use FamilyShield. You set it up in the router and the WHOLE network and EVERY device is shielded. No more managing every PC and worrying if the kids figured out how to unlock your software (Netnanny, SafeEyes, etc). You can manage the whole product from their website, without even being at home. Yes, if you are at work and you want to open up Facebook for an hour for the kids while you are at work, 2 clicks and you are done.

Businesses use OpenDNS’ business products. These range from free to some cost, but are significantly less expensive and far more elegant than in network hardware based solutions. It is the essence of a cloud solution. The entire system is managed from an online portal with web filtering, reporting and statistics, web security, etc at your fingertips.

Educational institutions can take advantage of free solutions too.

If you would like a demo or want to find out more, just contact us below.

Each and every day we work hard to provide the best computer service in Lewisburg, PA. We thought it would be interesting to discuss how we handle each computer we see in our computer service center…People wonder why we have a one hour minimum sometimes and this should shed some light on our detailed process.

Physical Cleaning — Each and every computer serviced is cleaned. No, we don’t give them a bath, but we do take our high powered compressed air fan and blow them out to clear out all the dirt, dust, and other buildup inside the case. All laptops in for computer repair receive a wipe down on the screen and case and we try to blow out the common build up in the keyboard area (it can be kind of yucky…)

Hardware Diagnostics — Each and every computer repaired in Lewisburg receives complete hardware diagnostics. Our expert technicians believe that without these diagnostics we are only seeing a partial picture. That is, we may be upgrading hardware, fixing a virus, or doing updates, but if we don’t know the status of the hardware, we may overlook a potentially failing drive, blown caps on a motherboard, a bad CMOS battery, etc.

Anti-Virus Evaluation — Each and every computer is not allowed to leave our Lewisburg, PA computer repair center without ensuring that the anti-virus software is up to date, not expired, and meets our quality standards. That means we will discuss with every customer that we feel NORTON, McAfee, Computer Associates, and a few other bloatware anti-virus solutions are not recommended. We often recommend AVG Free, MS Security Essentials, or AntiVir. All 3 are great free AV solutions.

Windows Updates — A PC without the latest updates is a sitting duck. MSFT releases updates most often to patch security holes. You need them so we make sure your PC has no remaining Windows Updates. Period

General Cleanup — We run a light malware scan on every PC. Most PCs have at least 1 or 2 lurking items even if they don’t seem viral. We also do some other general items to cleanup the PC. Defrag if necessary, system restore dump at times, or maybe just a simple registry cleaning using Ccleaner.

System Optimization — Every PC we see needs its startup list repaired. We fire up msconfig and disable all the dumb programs that don’t REALLY need to be starting up from the get go. This helps your pc run faster. We also like to check RAM as most PCs we see could benefit from a ram upgrade.

So as you can see each and every computer we repair in Lewisburg, PA receives a thorough and systematic review. We don’t like to do things twice, so we get it done right the first time. If you have further questions or want computer service in Lewisburg, PA contact us via the form. We welcome your challenge.

ComboFix

MVPS Hosts File Repair

Step 2: Turn of System Restore

Right click on the my computer icon and click properties. Then click on system restore and check the box to disable it. Viruses like to hang out in the system restore area so we need to disable it to make their life a little more difficult. In Windows 7 this is called System Protection.

Step 3: Install and Run the first four Viral Cleaning Tools

Each of the first four programs needs installed and then a full scan run. Once the scan finishes fix/remove any infections it finds. Some programs may ask you to reboot. DON’T. Wait until all programs are done before rebooting.

Step 4: Reboot Your PC

Once it reboots, just login as normal.

Step 5: Run Combofix

Follow this guide at Bleeping Computer on the steps to running ComboFix. The guide has plenty of screenshots

Each of the first four programs needs installed and then a full scan run. Once the scan finishes fix/remove any infections it finds.

Step 6: Run MVPS Hosts File

Not many people realize the effectiveness of this tool in preventing future attacks. Unzip the file. Explore the folder in created and run the mvps file by double clicking on it. It will seem like nothing happened, but it did. Continue through the prompt and you are done. This file prevents spyware from redirecting your PC to infectious websites in the future. It is not a guarantee, but it is an awesome preventive tool to have on your PC.

A number of our customers in downtown Lewisburg and its surrounding community have asked us to comment on the new Open Range internet service being offered as of June 2010. We think the service is a great idea and does fit a niche market so we thought we would try to discuss its pros and cons as well as outline where we see it being a fit for users in the area.

PROS:

For $60 you can get phone and internet service.

Your existing phones can plug into it so you do not need new phones.

The unit is portable so you could take it between home and work if you wanted. Note that you need to live and work in the Lewisburg borough area. We are not sure how far into the “suburbs” of Lewisburg that it travels.

You can shed your ties with Windstream.

The device also functions as a wireless router for your home or office.

CONS

The internet speed is a dismal 1.5mbps. That is likely fine for the average web surfer but it is not great for businesses or homes with multiple users who need fast internet access.

The phone service is VOIP. That means your phones and PCs SHARE the same connection so their could be times when the phone service is choppy. That could be an issue for businesses that are on the phone alot, especially with multiple people making phone calls.

To date, OpenRange cannot port Windstream phone numbers. That is, you can’t take your 524 or 523 or 522 phone number with you. Most businesses can’t afford to lose their current number so we see this as a major hurdle right now and hope OpenRange can solve this issues

We believe this device is ideal for small businesses with 1-2 PCs, no major internet speed requirements, and only 1-2 phone lines. Remember, you likely can’t use your fax through this connection so you will still have to pay for separate fax lines most likely. To use this service, you need to be in the vicinity of Linntown and downtown Lewisburg.

We wish OpenRange success and hope their service provides our customers an alternative and keeps the ISP market competitive in our area.

In the Lewisburg area many DeJazzd customers are now Windstream customers whether they like or not. We thought would provide a tutorial on how to setup your Windstream or DeJazzd email in Outlook. In this examepl we use Outlook 2010 but the settings apply to any email client, such as Thunderbird, Outlook Express, Windows Mail, etc.

Many people enjoy the freedom a web-based email as it allows you to access your email from any computer. If you would prefer this flexibility we recommend you just use Windstream’s webmail interface at http://webmail.windstream.net. Other people want to check their email in a traditional email client like Outlook, Thunderbird, Outlook Express, etc. If you use one of the email client and want to setup your Windstream/Dejazzd email please follow the steps outlined in the how to video below!

Click here to watch tutorial video on Outlook Email Setup for Windstream Email Accounts.

If the video is difficult to follow, please follow the basic guidelines below.

Make sure your incoming (POP3) and outgoing (SMTP) servers are set to be promail.ptd.net

Make sure you username is NOT your full email address. For example, if you PTD email address is johndoe@ptd.net your username would need to be johndoe and NOT johndoe@ptd.net

Make sure you have your CORRECT password typed in.

Make sure you have chosen outbound authentication (your SMTP server requires authentication) and that it uses the sames settings as your incoming server. This is usually the default radio option in Outlook

DO not change the default ports for the mail servers. Ports 25 for SMTP and ports 110 for POP3 are the correct ports to use.
